Route Image Fly Through

Route Image Fly Through

What is It

The route image fly through feature provides a synchronized view of image snapshots captured from multiple cameras on the bus during every system event, allowing you to quickly identify and investigate incidents. The feature also offers an interactive map displaying the bus's route, indicating event locations for a comprehensive overview.

Problem Statement

Reviewing lengthy school bus video footage can be time-consuming and inefficient when trying to locate exactly where an incident occurred. Identifying specific incidents or events becomes a challenge, leading to delays in response and resolution. Route image fly through aims to streamline this process by capturing snapshots during all system events and presenting them in a synchronized view, saving time and improving incident analysis.

How to Use

For images to be visible on a route, the route needs to have been selected when the route was run, a copilot events such as a student swiping on or off must have occurred, and the bus needs to have connected to bus lot Wi-Fi after the run to download the photos. If images are visible for the route run that you selected, confirm that all of these items have occurred.
The route image fly through feature can be seen in two different locations:

Buses – Current or Most Recent Route Run

For the current or most recent route you can open Fleet Management - Buses and select a bus. Once you select a bus, the snapshots from all cameras on that route will be visible in the Details section on the right (figure 1).

By clicking the expand icon (enclosed in a green box on figure 1) at the top right corner of the snapshots, all of the snapshots will be visible in a single screen (figure 2). In this expanded view you can move through each camera separately, or by clicking the lock icon (enclosed in a green box on figure 2) at the top right corner you can synchronize all the cameras together.

Route Runs – Historic Route Runs

To view snapshots from prior bus route runs, open Route Management - Route Runs. On this page, select a route and click View Run Report (figure 3) on the right-hand side under details.

This will open a detailed view of the activity from that route run. In addition to showing the students that boarded and listing all events on the bus, there is also a snapshot viewer on the right (figure 4). By default, all these cameras are synced together with the route map showing where the bus was when the event occurred. As you move through the route, the bus icon will move along the route to help with situational awareness.

Event, History, Video

From any snapshot screen you have three options at the top of the viewer; Event, History, and Video.
  1. Event – Clicking the Event link will take you to the relevant event on the events screen.
  2. History – Clicking the History link will take you to the History screen for that bus run. From here you can initiate an offload request for the video.
  3. Video – Clicking the Video link will take you to the recent review video screen for that date and bus. You can then initiate a download of the HD video from this screen.

HD Video Download

Once you have located the section of video that you would like to offload from the recent review screen, you click “Request Offload” and it takes you to the offload screen (figure 5). From here you can enter the time segment that you would like to offload. It is best to just offload the segment you would like to have and preserve. The longer the offload request the longer it will take for the video to offload. Offloads are in HD and from all available cameras on the bus.

Examples/Use Cases

  1. Morning bus boarding: Use route image fly through to review the boarding process. The system captures an image from all cameras every time a student logs on or off the bus. Quickly identify any issues or incidents during the morning routine.
  1. Incident response should the driver know there was an incident, but not when it occurred: In the event of an incident, easily pinpoint the time and location using synchronized snapshots. By quickly scanning the snapshots of the incident may have been captured allowing you to quickly request an HD video download for thorough incident analysis.
