Option | Description | Notes |
Base – Bus approaching | Bus Compass will notify when the bus is three stops away. Should the student’s stop be less than three stops from the bus barn, there will be a notification that the bus has left and from every stop after that. See figure 1. | To receive these notifications, the bus must register the prior stop and both the bus and the Bus Compass user must have a cellular signal. |
Option – No approaching notifications | The school can turn off notifications that the bus is approaching. |
Some schools have elected to turn off notifications of the approaching bus so that the student relies on the planned time and cannot use Bus Compass as an excuse for being late to the stop. |
Base – Student on/off bus | Bus Compass will indicate when and where the student has boarded or exited the bus. See figure 2. | |
Student on/off notification | The school can optionally send a notification upon every swipe on and off the bus.
| While some schools have elected to do this, it is important to be aware that the timeliness of the guardian notification can be impacted by the cellular coverage for the bus and the guardian. The notifications can also be overwhelming for some guardians. |
Push Notifications | The school can send push notifications per options shown in figure 3. | An example of how a push notification looks is shown in figure 4. |
