Explanation

A companion board alert may indicate wiring problems in bus installation, bad or loose power connectors, or an internal problem with the attendant.

Effect

Symptoms vary. The attendant might not coming online when expected, or it appears to be online but is not working as expected. "Not working as expected" could be just about anything.
On a v3 attendant, the orange light on the aux port not being illuminated is a symptom.

Next Steps

  1. Check the power upstream from the attendant. Confirm the patch panel has no obvious defects, fuses are good, connections are solid and corrosion-free, and the power loom has 12 volts.
  2. Disconnect the attendant's power connectors, then securely reconnect them. As you do so, you should hear and feel a solid click. Upon reconnection, confirm that the attendant's lights come on and stay on.
  3. If this is a v3 attendant, find the cable that comes out of the attendant and plugs right back into itself. There should be an orange light illuminated on the socket where it plugs in, although this light being off is a symptom of companion board trouble. Unplug the cable, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in to the same socket. Confirm that the orange light comes on as you do so and stays on.

The observed symptoms should go away immediately. If they do not, contact support@transportant.com, informing us what the symptoms are and what you have tried.
This alert, like most, is calculated on a rolling average, so even after correcting the problem the alert will remain visible for a few days. However, by clicking through to the detail page, you can see if you have successfully fixed the problem.
