SSD Diagnostic Failure/Video Storage Performance

SSD Diagnostic Failure/Video Storage Performance

Explanation

When you see either the SSD Diagnostic Failure alert or the Video Storage Performance alert, that means that an attendant's primary storage for video (solid state drive, or SSD) has failed one or more automated diagnostic tests.
Transportant periodically runs automated health tests on your attendants to catch failing storage devices before any problem become noticeable for you or video is lost. For this reason, these are alerts that should not be ignored.

Effect

If this alert is left unaddressed, you can expect to encounter problems reviewing or offloading video. In the worst case, you may find that a needed video was never recorded or is unavailable.

Next Steps

This alert comes with a severity level, a number between 1 and 4. What your next action is depends upon the severity level.
  1. A severity level of 1 or 2, without any difficulty in reviewing video, means that we are beginning to observe failed diagnostic tests. The storage unit continues to function and your videos remain safe, but you should keep a close eye on the attendant and be prepared to replace it on short notice should the severity level increase. If you do not have a spare attendant at hand, now is a good time to get one. If there are videos that you have been meaning to offload from this attendant, that should be done sooner rather than later.
  2. A severity level 1 or 2 accompanied by difficulty in reviewing video, or level 3 or 4 with or without symptoms, means that the video storage on this attendant can no longer be trusted and that the attendant should be replaced. Contact customer support at support@transportant.com to arrange for this.
This alert, like most, is calculated on a rolling average, so even after correcting the problem the alert will remain visible for a few days. However, by clicking through to the detail page as seen above, you can see if you have successfully fixed the problem.
