New Camera has tspCam Name

New Camera has tspCam Name

Problem description

Occasionally, you may see that a newly installed camera appears in the live video camera selector with an unusual name that begins with "tspCam". Live video might or might not be visible. You will be unable to rename the camera..
More rarely, a newly installed camera might have a normal hostname but one or more duplicate phantom cameras with tspCam names will also appear.

How to fix it

If the attendant has a red button, press it. If there is no red button, disconnect the attendant's power connector, wait 10 seconds, and connect it again. What this does is reset the attendant, and upon a reset the problem usually goes away.
If resetting the attendant does not fix the problem, contact suppport@transportant.com, mentioning the bus number, and we will investigate the root cause for you.

Background information

When a camera is installed on a bus, the attendant should automatically assign it a hostname of the form atz1234. If this does not happen as quickly as it should, you will see in the live video camera selection dropdown that the affected camera will have a name beginning with tspCam, e.g. tspCam3-065728217e78. A camera in this state might provide live video but should not be relied on for recording. Resetting the attendant usually fixes the problem. Less often the camera, the attendant, or the cable that connects them is at fault.
