Problems Playing Offloaded Video
If you have offloaded video but you are having trouble reproducing it, be sure that you are using a video player such as
VLC that can play .ts format video.
For example, on many Mac computers when you double click on an offloaded video, it is opened in the Apple QuickTime player, but that won't work: the QuickTime player can only reproduce .ts audio, not video. The solution, again, is to download and install a video player such as
VLC that can play .ts format video.
We are sometimes asked why we use the MPEG transport stream (.ts) format. That is because is it designed for exactly what we're doing: streaming over sometimes degraded channels such as driving around in sometimes weak cellular coverage areas. Moreover, given that widely available no-cost players such as VLC support it, that makes .ts a natural choice.
If you have video consumers asking for different formats, yes it is possible to convert .ts to other formats, but that would both impose needless busywork on you and run the risk of corruption through conversion. A better solution would be to encourage your video consumers to install VLC or another video player that supports the .ts format.
