Cameras are supposed to update their firmware automatically. This alert notifies you that automatic updating has failed on one of your cameras. That is not usually a problem in itself but could indicate an underlying issue.
The most common root causes for this alert are:
- The bus has poor Wi-Fi reception. Check the Wi-Fi report.
- The bus's shutdown timer is set to too brief a time. To give firmware updates a chance to complete, a bus's shutdown timer should usually be set to at least 120 minutes. Check the bus's shutdown timer.
- The batteries on the bus have chronic low voltage. To protect your bus's batteries, the attendant will shut itself down if it detects low voltage, with the result that the attendant is not on long enough for firmware updates can complete. Check the bus's battery chart and/or All Bus Events.
If none of the above apply and there are no obvious problems with the camera or its video, this alert can be safely ignored.
This alert, like most, is calculated on a rolling average, so even after correcting the problem the alert will remain visible for a few days. However, by clicking through to the detail page as seen above, you can see if you have successfully fixed the problem.
